About me
Hi my name is Leon, a 23 year old from the Netherlands where I studied Environmental science. You can often find me out in nature and playing guitar and piano. Next to that, I like to make time to enjoy my surroundings, reflect, think and let my mind wander.
Our place as humans in this world and how we connect to and interact with each other, and everything around us, is something I often think about. These topics reflect my natural curiosity for nature, philosophy, psychology and spirituality. I am an idealist, who wants to make realistic progress towards a better world.
My vision
My vision is a green world in which we live in connection with everything and everyone around us. We as a part of nature. In my view, consciousness plays an important role in creating this world, and raising it is something that I believe we can all contribute to positively.
Education
In 2019 I graduated my pre-university education. With a broad profile including history, geography, economics, mathematics and physics I obtained a broad basic knowledge. In 2020 I completed my propaedeutic phase in the bachelor Astronomy at the University of Leiden. During this year I learnt to look at things in a structured way. What I enjoyed most was setting up and running experiments. After the first year I took a gap year and studied chemistry on pre-university level to enable me for the next step in my education.
In 2024 I completed my short-track bachelor of applied science in Environmental Science at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda. During my studies I did an internship at the Province of North Brabant regarding climate robust brook landscapes. Next to that I also spent a semester doing outdoor ecology and ecosystems in Sweden. My graduation project was done at the University of Twente regarding the stimulation of environmental awareness about urban green infrastructure.
Business
Currently I am looking for a meaningful job involving nature, green, and climate adaptation. This can be an advising role, a coordinating role, or a combination of both. Above all, I am looking for the right place and the right people.
A generalist by heart, I have broad knowledge and interests allowing me to keep an overview of what is going on and how it fits in the bigger picture. In doing so, I think creatively and take into account all interests and perspectives involved. That’s where my strength lies, from general sustainability to an extra hand in the field, I like to be the spider in the web that connects and helps. Next to that I also bring well-developed analytical skills and a critical view. In my eyes everything can be learned, so when needed I will gladly expand my current knowledge and skills.
In terms of work, I like a combination of theoretical and practical work with lots of social interaction. Space to work independently and come up with and implement my own ideas is very valuable to me. Besides that, I also enjoy discussing and exchanging with others. This results in mutual understanding and enables me to keep other people’s perspectives in mind.
Some of the computer skills I have picked up over the years:
-Excel is a program I have been using for as long as I can remember
-Programming in Python is something I started with in 2018, when I bought a book on it and taught it to myself
-Geospatial data analysis, or GIS, is something I picked up and applied during my studies, for example during my internship
